NO ONE SHOULD FEEL INCAPABLE BECAUSE OF THEIR AGE.
Ribix Productions is a youth-based theatre company located in Canberra. We aim to provide a platform for emerging young performers and creators within the Performing Arts industry. Building community is our focus, and we strive to create an environment where actors, musicians, writers, and dancers alike can express themselves and grow in their craft. We challenge people to step out of their comfort zone; to teach and be taught; to collaborate to create something beautiful.
Ribix Productions was founded in 2015 by Rachel Pengilly and Shannon Parnell, who were both eager to get back onstage. The two discovered, however, that the easiest way to break into the amateur theatre scene in Canberra was to found their own company and write their own play. The Train Station, written and directed by Rachel Pengilly, ran over three nights at North Belconnen Baptist Church to an audience of approximately 120 people. And the dream was born.
Ribix continued to grow, reaching out to various performers and creatives around Canberra. In June 2017, Ribix announced their new original production Foxes: The Musical, written by Rachel Pengilly and Shannon Parnell. The musical was entered into Season Three of the crowd-voted grant program Stir, earning 277 public votes, and in July 2017 Ribix was presented with $1000 to put towards the production. After five months of rehearsal, Foxes: The Musical opened in January 2018 to a sold-out run at Belconnen Community Theatre.
Today, Ribix consists of more than fifty performers and creators. Run by a dedicated team, all under the age of 25, Ribix is quickly proving that age is no measure of capability.
