We are currently looking for the following roles. If you would like to audition, but don’t feel that you fit any of these character briefs, we encourage you to submit an application anyway. There are additional roles within the play that have not yet been released for auditions that you may fit.

David Brand | Playing Age: 15-20
Brave, funny, and ambitious, David dreams of adventure and discovering who he is away from his family.

James Bryson | Playing Age: 15-20
Outspoken, bold, and brash, Bryson doesn’t care what anyone thinks… at least, that’s what he wants them all to think.

John Paul | Playing Age: 12 – 16
Warm, kind-hearted, and rational, John Paul desperately wants to fit in. He excels in caring for others… just not at stealing food. McEwan’s best friend and protector.

Hugh McEwan | Playing Age: 12-16
A classic optimist and daydreamer, McEwan sees the absolute best in every situation… unless it’s too scary. John Paul’s best friend in the whole world, no takebacks.

Hugh McGinnes | Playing Age: 12-16
A sarcastic, hilarious wise-ass, McGinnes is the underdog’s best friend… and the top dog’s worst enemy.

Peter Currie | Playing Age: 12-16
Excitable and impressionable, Currie is on board for one reason only: finding the legendary cuttlefish he’s heard so many stories about.

Please note that, due to the restrictions of time and space, not all applicants will be guaranteed an audition slot.

Yes! This production is paid via a profit share model designed in conjunction with MEAA guidelines. Exact details will be shared with successful applicants.

Whilst we would love to be able to pay all our artists according to MEAA standards, we are still a young and growing company. It’s incredibly difficult to make the shift from amateur to professional, so this profit share model is the best solution while we make this transition.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with our team if you have any concerns regarding this.

Due to the scope of the show, our rehearsal schedule gets quite intensive, particularly as we get closer to production week and during the school holidays. Working with Children Laws in the ACT and NSW have limits on how many hours children can work per week. Only casting actors who are over 15 years old means that we are are adhering to all required safety laws.

Absolutely! Legacies is based on the true story of the Arran Stowaways and, while the majority of the characters in this story are male, we are committed to inclusive theatre practices. With this in mind, we are casting irrespective of the characters’ written genders. We would love to see female-identifying and non-binary actors.

‘Strong movers’ are actors who have experience or a background in physical theatre, dance, acrobatics, circus, martial arts, stage combat, etc.

This is because our production of Legacies is based heavily in physical theatre.

Whilst this is preferred, it is not necessary. We will be providing training in this throughout the course of the production.

Auditions will be a short session with director Rachel Pengilly. It is also likely that the audition panel will also include additional members of the production team. The audition is a chance for us to get a sense of your work and who you are as an artist.

For your audition, you will be asked to prepare a monologue of your choice and a section of text. You will also do some brief movement work with our Movement Director, Hannah Pengilly.

You may be invited for callbacks following the audition. Callbacks are our way of testing chemistry and specific combinations within the cast.

Auditions will be in mid February at the Q – Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre.

Rehearsals will be from May to August. They will run part-time during the school term. Whilst a rehearsal schedule has not been finalised, it is likely to be two evenings a week plus Saturday during the day. Rehearsals will become more intensive during the July school holidays.

The show season is 2 – 5 August, with production week starting 24 July.

Whilst we definitely prefer in-person auditions, don’t fret if you are away for the audition dates! If this is the case, we will organise it with you so that you can send in a self-tape or take part in a Zoom audition.

We’d love to hear from you. Please contact our team at and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.
